Note: the returning officer may omit or abridge any part of the candidate's statement where it exceeds 400 words, or is offensive or defamatory.
It is the candidate's responsibility to ensure that a candidate statement is received by the Returning Officer.
If the statement is not received by the nominations closing date your statement cannot be sent to voters with the voting papers.
Your candidate statement is a public document. It may be placed on the school website and sent out with the voting papers.
Boards are public entites. Anyone, other than those ineligible under sections 103 and 103A of the Education Act 1989, may stand for election for the board of trustees.
However those not on the voting roll must be nominated by a person who is.
A candidate may appoint a scrutineer to observe the vote count. You must advise the Returning Officer in writing of the scrutineer's name and contact details before the close of the voting.
Nomination forms are available in Te Reo Maori. Contact the returning officer (ReturningOfficer@eduplus.co.nz) if you require Te Reo Maori forms. (Translations of some materials are also available in other languages)
Your school may call for a by-election. Sometimes these will be called to fill one or more casual vacancies.
School elections are postal ballots, run according to the Ministry of Education regulations. Voting papers will be redirected to the address you have given your school. If you have given your school your email address, you may receive a confirmation of the postal address that voting papers will go to. If your postal address is incorrrect, you must advise the Returning Officer before the date the electoral roll closes.
No more deadline panic as all the last-minute nominations arrive! Personalise your papers with your school logo and colours. No complicated HTML knowledge necessary. Add photos. Add or remove candidates.
You can print a list of candidates for your tally sheet; complete your Declaration of Result at the push of a button; and have full access to all data at every step of the way.
